How do I get my neighbors dog to stop barking so much!?
I like my neighbors, we dont talk very often anymore, but they are kind hearted. They have no control over their 3 kids. The children are brats, they always leave a mess in the front yard that ends up blowing into our front yard, they are EXTREMELY loud in the summer late at night and parents dont do anything. Anyways, their previous dog was old and deaf and recently died. This summer they got a german shepard puppy. The dog is about 6 months old. Over the past few months, the dog barks late at night and just when you think the dog went to sleep…it starts to bark again around 11pm ish, all this barking is going on while the owners are at home. They do nothing about it! Not to mention the dog barks continuosly EVERY morning, well maybe mostly on weekdays at 5:30/6:30 in the morning. Again, the owners are home and just let the dog bark. It bothers me for many reasons..#1) I am unable to sleep in #2)my husband sleeps during the day and it is effecting his sleep. #3)my youngest daughter’s (1 yr old)bedroom window faces the neighbors yard, she has adapted to falling asleep with the barking at nighttime, but the morning barking wakes her up early every morning.
Not to mention….the dog barks alot during the day too, when the owners are not at home. I fear talking to the neighbors about it, will make things akward, because last summer we came to find a couple of their kids in our backyard , they rudely said they were looking for their ball that accidently came into our yard (I believe it). The problem I have with that is, we have a swimming pool and if anything bad were to happen we would be liable. When this incident happened…my husband walked next door to talk to their dad, hubby knocked on front door and was greeted by the 3 yr old little girl, hubby walked in to find dad sleeping on couch. hubby woke dad and told him about his kids in our backyard. The dad didnt think it was a big deal, cause they were looking for a ball, anyways my hubby nicely asked that they not do that anymore and have them wait till we get home next time. After that incident…it was a bit uncomfortable everytime we saw them. THat is what I am worried about.
if they don’t care about what the kids do, then I am sure they won’t care about the dog and what it is up to………….you have a right to have peace, especially at night and the neighbours need to know, either talk to them and tell them their dog is constantly disturbing your sleep and that of your child ( difficult if hubby has to sleep during the day) however it shouldn’t be constant barking then either…and if not then phone environmental health ( or whoever deals with noise/animal behaviour in your city) and make a complaint…they will come out and monitor the noise, speak to the neighbours and often warn them about future noise or if it is bad fine them.
being a little bit uncomfortable is better than getting no sleep for the time you live there.

A) Talk to them sophisticatedly about it. When that doesn’t work, call the police.
B) Get a gun.

I would just start being a d*** about everything. When them kids come over into the yard, I would start yelling and chase them back over to their own house and then give their dad an earful of yelling - or just call the police and Child Protective Services and tell them that the kids’ dad has no clue where they are and routinly places them in danger by not watching them. As for the dog, I would call the police and animal control as the dog is a nuissance and is mistreated-left there to bark all day long because they do not take care of him.
